Life as a student in our Summer Vacation Scheme
We believe the best way to figure out if a career in law is right for you is to experience it.
Our four week-long paid Summer Vacation Scheme is open to all aspiring to be the top lawyers in the market.
During your summer placement, you’ll get hands-on experience, allowing you to expand your knowledge of the law, business and our firm. You’ll work within two key practice areas of either Corporate, Dispute Resolution or Property & Infrastructure.
You can preference your seat before you join the firm – and we’ll try our best to accommodate. However, we recommend keeping an open mind as you might just find an area of law you love.
From day one, you will have a mentor and a buddy within your department, providing you with the support and advice you need to excel. The Graduate Recruitment team will also be on hand to offer continued support.
You’ll also get training sessions with our experienced Knowledge and Development Lawyers, who will give insights into all our practice areas, so you can learn more about areas of law you might be interested in.
At the end of your summer placement, you’ll receive detailed feedback on your performance to help you understand how you perform as we believe in supporting you in your future development. Excelling in your summer placement will help you secure a traineeship offer at Burness Paull. And if that isn’t enough, we’ll also cover the cost of your diploma if you are successful.

How to apply? Are you eligible?
Our Summer Placements are suitable for 3rd year Scots Law LLB students and above. You can also apply if you are a 1st year accelerated LLB student and above or Diploma student. To be eligible, you should be on track to receive a 2:1 or higher in your studies.
In your application you will need to demonstrate why you want to work at Burness Paull.
While it’s easy to do a play back an overview of our firm, it’s much more impressive to show you’ve done a comprehensive search into the field your interested in and you understand how our firm operates in that market, and we’re more than happy to answer any of your questions.
