Things to make your work life balance a little easier.

Our family policies and hybrid working options are key to our flexible working framework. Our policies support all family structures and help employees excel at work by addressing their personal needs.

Policies include:

  • Parental Leave
  • Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Leave
  • Carer's Leave
  • Flexible Leave
  • Adoption Leave

From day one, you’ll have access to these policies, which are regularly updated with input from our BeProud and BeValued employee networks to reflect best practices.

We recognise everyone has unique needs and requirements. Therefore, we offer flexible working arrangements that are tailored to diverse lifestyles, including reasonable adjustments for disabilities, mental health issues, and neurodivergent conditions.

To foster a supportive culture for our colleagues, we promote shared parental leave and flexible working and provide training and resources for menopause support. Our employee networks facilitate open discussions on topics such as baby loss, fertility, and caring responsibilities.

To ensure some peace of mind when it comes to your health and healthcare, we offer a variety of health and wellbeing-related employee benefits including membership to Westfield Health Cashplan, where you can get money back from private care appointments and treatments like optical, dental, chiropody, consultations and more.

Employee networks that give everyone a voice

Our people are our firm, and we value your input. That’s why we give everyone the opportunity to have their say on what life is like at Burness Paull.

We’re proud to work in an inclusive environment where all can succeed. We have several employees led networks that help ensure inclusion, wellbeing and equity is embedded in everything we do. They help shape our actions through facilitating employees having their say on policies and practices, bringing together groups of like-minded individuals to share experiences and connect with one another, and organising and promoting initiatives to support the wellbeing of our colleagues. All employees are invited to join our networks and participate as a committee or network member. Our networks include:

BeValued
This is the firm’s respect and inclusion networking group, created to discuss and provide support our employees on issues which affect them at and/or outside of work. They meet regularly and as well as sharing experiences as a group, they facilitate firmwide sessions on a variety of issues including living with health issues, parent and caring responsibilities, supporting neurodiversity and general wellbeing sessions, often bringing in expert speakers.

BeProud
The work of our BeProud network brings together LGBT+ colleagues and allies to help shape a more inclusive environment for all, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is fundamental to our commitment to make sure everyone can be their true selves at work and be valued for it. Our policies and practices are designed to be inclusive for all family situations and gender identities. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with other LGBTQ+ organisations across the Scottish legal sector.

BeDiverse
Our BeDiverse group raises awareness of various faiths, religions and cultural heritages and works to ensure everyone feels supported and able to be themselves at work. We regularly celebrate and learn about different cultural celebrations across the firm. They also advise on best practice for culture inclusion and participate in outreach and recruitment activity.

BeMindful
It’s important to us to create a healthy, safe and positive working environment, offering colleagues the support and resources needed to maintain your mental, physical and financial wellbeing. As well as a network of trained mental health first aiders across the firm, we offer a range of support including but not limited to healthcare benefits, partnerships with mental health support organisations (See Me in Work, Mindful Business Charter), access to counselling, and training for line managers.

How we are helping to change the world

We want to form human and high-performing partnerships that make a difference to us and the communities around us.

At the heart of our offering is the Burness Paull Foundation, a registered charity established in 2016 and funded by the firm. The Burness Paull Foundation makes financial awards to help you achieve your fundraising goals for causes close to your heart. The Foundation has already supported colleagues who took part in initiative, from growing Movember moustaches to participating in swimathons, bike rides, and hikes, and organising special events. As well as supporting individuals, our team spirit means there are always firmwide fundraising activities on the go. The Foundation regularly runs charity appeals, which receive tremendous support from colleagues.

In addition, we have a longstanding partnership with Street Soccer Scotland, a truly inspirational organisation providing training and personal development opportunities for socially disadvantaged groups across Scotland using the positive power of football. Our firm wide commitment to this cause is evident though the number of colleagues who give up their time to volunteer.

At our core, we thrive on nurturing creativity and tackling challenges with fresh and bold perspectives. So, it only felt natural that we should partner with a like minded organisations like Scottish Ballet, who are passionate about creativity and give individuals the space to perform just as we do. When you work at Burness Paull, you’re not just doing your job; you are part of leading the charge in pioneering innovation and revolutionising work practices.
