Burness Paull is proud to be an official partner of The Scottish Rum Festival, a celebration of Scotland’s rum producers taking place in Edinburgh on 2nd September.

The festival marks the start of Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight and Scottish Rum Week, giving rum a prominent place amongst the best of Scottish produce.

A strong line up Scottish producers will be showcasing their rums, including: Banditti Club Rum, Base Spirits Collective, Brewdog Distilling Co., Dark Matter Distillers, The GlenAllachie Distillery’s Exploration Rum, Illicit Spirits, IslandSlice Rum, Islay Rum, J. Gow Rum, Matugga Distillers, Ninefold Distillery, North Point Distillery, Ron Cabezon and Wester Distillery, alongside some exciting brand new entrants to Scotland’s thriving rum scene.

Attendees will have the opportunity to taste and learn about their backgrounds, unique flavours and production techniques. A programme of expert talks and panel sessions will introduce audiences to topics such as Scotland’s rum heritage, and the synergies between Scottish rum and whisky. Panellists will include Sir Geoff Palmer, Professor Emeritus and Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University and industry veteran Billy Walker.

Jacine Rutasikwa, co-founder of Matugga Distillers and organiser of The Scottish Rum Festival said: “We are absolutely delighted to see the very first live Scottish Rum Festival take place in 2023. Our previous virtual festival proved popular with rum lovers up and down the country, and we can’t wait to bring them all together to enjoy the world-class high-quality and variety of rum production in Scotland, and meet the producers that are making it all happen. Thanks to partners Burness Paull, Scotland Food & Drink and Cask & Still Magazine for their support – it is fantastic to have the backing of those championing Scotland’s food & drink sector.”

David Morgan, employment law partner and head of food & drink at Burness Paull said: “We have long been immersed in Scotland’s food & drink sector, acting for the names behind some of the country’s finest produce. A large part of our business is advising many of the most well-known distillers, traditionally as they produce Scotch whisky but more recently as they diversified into craft gin. And now with rum as the exciting next big thing on the scene, it’s fantastic to see it being showcased at its own dedicated festival. Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight recognises the hard work those in the industry put into one of Scotland’s most important sectors. We’re proud to be part of this exciting initiative helping putting Scottish rum on the global stage.

The festival will take place in Patina, Edinburgh, and consist of two sessions: an afternoon session from 12:00 to 16:00 and an evening session from 17:00 to 21:00.
