British nationality law is complex and layered.
We are often asked whether it is possible to acquire Scottish citizenship. As Scotland is part of the UK, there is currently no such thing as a Scottish passport distinct from a British passport. We regularly advise on all aspects of UK nationality law, from straightforward naturalisation applications for those with Indefinite Leave to Remain and registration of children as British, to more complex cases.
We are well versed in the requirements for naturalisation applications including continuous residence, presence in the UK on relevant dates and good character.
For example, our experienced team have dealt with cases involving adoption, discretionary application for minors, applications redressing gender imbalance in historic nationality law (i.e. where a person would have been recognised as British but for their one British national parent being female).
We also advise on Windrush applications, eligibility for Hong Kong nationals and applications for stateless persons.
